National Administration Studies Project, III My research in mentoring began as a PhD student at Georgia Tech, where I was studying mentoring of women in science and technology. At the same time, I developed an interest in understanding how mentoring might be different in public organizations. With the guidance of my PhD advisor, Barry Bozeman, we developed a survey instrument to investigate mentoring relationships in public and nonprofit organizations. I was the project manager for NASP III which collected data on public and nonprofit managers in Illinois and Georgia. I used the NASP III data in my dissertation and subsequent publications. I also drew from my research on mentoring in public and nonprofit organizations to continue to investigate issues of mentoring and women's experiences in STEM fields. Today, I am working on research that investigates mentoring within collaborative networks of scientists.
